2 Free Claude Skills That Script and Edit My Instagram Reels
Resources
- Tool Reel System, free, both skills, the research and the Remotion template
- Claude Code, runs both skills
- Remotion, builds and renders the edit as code
- ManyChat, sends the links when someone comments the keyword
I post five Instagram reels a week and I don't write or edit any of them. Two free Claude skills do. One writes the script, the other cuts the video in Remotion. The only thing I do in the middle is film one take off my phone.
One reel made this way did 200,000 views. Another did 100,000. In four weeks my account went from 1,500 to over 6,000 followers.
Both skills, the research behind them and the full Remotion template are in one free GitHub repo, linked above. Here's what each part does, and the one idea that makes it work every time: constraints.
What does each part of the reel system do?
Constraints: why you get the same result every time
Give AI a vague job and it guesses, differently on every run. So both skills are really long lists of rules: what to say, what never to say, how long each sentence is and where each pixel goes. The script skill alone is about 5,000 words of them. That's what turns a cool demo into something you can run five days a week.
The research: 16 reels, reverse-engineered
The rules aren't guesses either. Claude pulled the last 16 reels from the biggest creator in the AI-tools niche, 630,000 followers, with their view counts, and worked out what they had in common. Lists beat single-tool videos by about five to one. Both teardowns are in the repo's research folder.
tool-reel: writes the script from a page of links
Paste a page with a few links on it and it writes the reel. Every script has four beats: the hook, the tool's name plus borrowed proof, the value, then the call to action. The hook is one sentence under 4 seconds that says the prize in full. Every value line follows one template: what the tool does, then "so", then the friction that stops happening.
tool-reel-edit: cuts the video in seven stages
Drop in your raw footage and it keeps the best complete take, speeds you up about 1.15x without changing your pitch, and masters your voice. Then it word-syncs the captions, pulls screenshots, logos and live star counts from each GitHub repo, designs the shots and assembles it all in Remotion. The average shot is two seconds, so you never sit on one frame for long.
The layout rules: locked positions and the Instagram safe zone
The opening frame is locked, with the title, imagery, captions and face in the same positions on every reel. Instagram covers the top 220 pixels, the bottom 450 and the right-hand buttons, so nothing you're meant to read goes there. Every beat becomes three to five shots, and your face is off screen in about half of them.
The Remotion template: a real shipped reel
The template is the code of a real reel, with the footage and assets stripped out. It won't render until you add your own footage, and that's expected. Its value is the components, the scripts and a worked example of the edit file. You watch the cut in Remotion Studio and click Render yourself.
ManyChat: the comment gate
Every reel ends by asking for one comment word. A ManyChat automation DMs the links, and viewers follow to get them. That only works if you have a free resource to give away, so without one, swap that beat for something else.
